Command Sergeant Major Howard L. G. McBean was born in Kingston, Jamaica. He enlisted in the United States Army September 17th 1987. After
attending Basic Combat Training at Fort Bliss, Texas, he completed Advanced Individual Training at Fort Sam Houston, Texas as Radiology
His military assignments include Radiology Technologist and Radiology NCO, 225th Station Hospital/9th General Dispensary, Bad Kreuznach, Germany; Senior Radiology NCO, Reynolds Army Community Hospital, Fort Huachuca, AZ; NCOIC Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Landstuhl Army Medical Center, Germany and NCOIC Radiology, USAMEDDAC, Fort Sill, OK. From July 2000 to March 2003, CSM McBean served as the Senior Small Group Leader ANCOC and BNCOC, AMEDD NCO Academy, Fort Sam Houston, TX and subsequently as the First Sergeant, BNCOC, AMEDD NCO Academy. While serving as the First Sergeant, Medical Company and Medical Holding Company, Moncrief Army Community Hospital, Fort Jackson, SC., he was selected to attend the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy.
As a Sergeant Major and Command Sergeant Major he served as the Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Radiological Consultant, Tripler Army Medical Center, HI and Senior Medical NCO, United States Army Pacific (USARPAC) Surgeons Office, HI where he was responsible for 36 Asian Pacific Countries under the Theater Security Cooperation Program(TSCP). He served as the 62nd Medical Brigade(Rear)(Provisional) Senior Enlisted Advisor and Command Sergeant Major, 47th Combat Support Hospital. As the 47th CSH’s CSM, he completed a six month deployment in support of Operation New Dawn where the TF was responsible for all medical support in Iraq as well as the transition of US Medical Care to the Department of State medical contractor.
CSM McBean’s military and civilian education, includes Primary Leadership Development Course, Basic Noncommissioned Officers Course, Advanced Noncommissioned Officer Course, First Sergeants Course, Sergeants Major Course (Class #56), Command Sergeants Major Course, Master Fitness Trainer Course, Small Group Instructor Trainer Course, Faculty Development Course and a host of nonresident courses. His civilian education includes Baccalaureate Degrees in Psychology and Administration(Trinity University, San Antonio, TX) and a Bachelor of Science in Radiology (Touro University International).
His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (5OLC), Army Commendation Medal (1-OLC), Army Achievement Medal(7OLC), Good Conduct Medal (8thAward), National Defense Service Medal (with bronze star), NCO Professional Development Ribbon (with numeral 4), Overseas Ribbon (with numeral 3), Iraqi Campaign Medal (with bronze star), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and Army Superior Unit Award(2nd Award). He earned the Expert Field Medical Badge, German Schutzenschnur (Gold) and Expert Drivers Badge. CSM McBean is a recipient of the AMEDD Order of Military Medical Merit.
He is married to his beautiful wife and love of his life, the former Marcia Campbell. They have two boys Christopher and Nicholas.
