Training Program
Mission Statement
The mission of the training program is to
educate and train selected Army Dental Corps Officers in Oral and
Maxillofacial Surgery and to graduate full scope surgeons capable of
meeting the needs of the U.S. Army.
Program Description
The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
Residency is a 48 month certificate program accredited by the American
Dental Association’s Committee on Graduate Dental Education. The
residency at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii is one of
six Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery training programs available in the
Army Dental Corps. The educational experience is provided through
rotations within the medical center (i.e. internal medicine, general
surgery, neurosurgery, cardiology, pulmonary, and others) and by a
three-month trauma rotation at the University of Texas Health Science
Center, Houston. Training is provided which allows the graduate to apply
for privileges in the full scope of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Program Strengths:
- Close working relationship between the attending staff and residents
- A full time attending staff with easy accessibility
- Strong Orthognathic Surgery experience with a military Orthodontist assigned to directly support the training program
- Strong Dental Implant experience with three military Prosthodontists supporting the training program
- Active academic environment with residencies in medicine, pediatrics, ob/gyn, general surgery, urology, otolaryngology, psychiatry, and family practice
- Army Advanced Education in General Dentistry – 2 year program located nearby at Schofield Barracks
