Family Medicine Residency Program
Aloha and welcome to the Tripler Army Medical Center Family Medicine Residency webpage! We are excited that you are interested in Family Medicine and in our
program. We welcome you join us for a rotation or a phone interview.
Located on the beautiful island of Oahu, Hawaii, Tripler’s Family Medicine Residency Program offers outstanding training, which will prepare you to become the best family physician you can be. We have a proud tradition of training exceptional family physicians and leaders in the Military Health System since 1991.
Our program is fortunate to be led by some of the most highly trained faculty of any Family Medicine Program in the nation. Our staff consists of: one faculty with a Masters in Public Health degree and research experience, one faculty with an MBA, a Sports Medicine fellowship-trained physician, two OB fellowship-trained physicians, two Faculty Development trained-physicians, one Palliative Care fellowship-trained physician, and one adjunct faculty who is trained in Primary Care Colonoscopy. The highly skilled faculty utilizes multiple teaching formats and venues, including point of care ultrasound training and routine use of the Tripler Simulation Center.
Teamwork and high morale are cornerstones of emphasis in our program. Our residents and faculty share many exciting times together from Wednesday morning flag football, dodge ball, or ultimate Frisbee, to weekly soccer games after work on Thursdays. We also have group events and functions on a regular basis, which helps to reinforce camaraderie.
An important aspect of our program that sets us apart from many others is our ability to participate in humanitarian missions. Many of our residents are given an opportunity to travel to a country in the Pacific region to work in an austere environment, providing much needed medical care to populations that suffer from inadequate healthcare. These humanitarian missions are supported by faculty physicians and are an incredible opportunity to participate in a military operational mission. Few residency programs can provide this opportunity on a continual basis.
For our rotating osteopathic students, we also have a fully functional OMT clinic that receives referrals from providers in our clinic. We currently have ten residents and faculty who work in these weekly clinics. There is ample opportunity to hone your OMT skills with OMT trained faculty preceptor support.
Our program is thriving and we’d like to invite you to see what our residency program has to offer. If you would like more information about our program or you would like to set up an interview, please email me. I would be more than happy to talk with you and provide you a copy of our three-year rotation schedule and the most up to date Power Point presentation that summarizes our program.
