18th Medical Command

Future 18th Medical Command (Deployment Support) Personnel,

Aloha and congratulations on your assignment to the 18th Medical Command (DS) It is an exciting time in Hawaii as we are realizing the Army's vision for Transformation for our Pacific Theater. The 18th Medical Command (DS) will be the last Theater enabling command to activate in the Pacific, joining the 8th TSC, 311th Signal, 520th MI, 94th AAMDC, & 320th CA. The unit will be multi-compo (active, reserve, and AGR) and have under 200 personnel assigned to it. The mission of the 18th Medical Command (DS) is to provide command and control, administrative assistance and technical supervision for all assigned and attached medical units in the Pacific Command Area of Responsibility.

The basis for establishing the 18th Medical Command (DS) in Hawaii came from the Army Campaign Plan Decision Points 49 and 58, which established theater functional commands per Army Service Component Command (ASCC). Results of the Army Analysis 08-13 consisted of programmed inactivation’s of all legacy MEDCOMs (18th MEDCOM) and the activation/conversions of Medical Commands (DS) aligned with the ASCC’s. The unit is actually ADCON to Pacific Regional Medical Command and will activate this fall 2008.

If you will be new to Hawaii, there are a few challenges to work through, i.e., authorized shipment for only one car, housing can be expensive if you cannot get on-post housing, schooling can be a challenge for some families depending upon where you live, the age of your children, etc. However, once these issues are addressed you’ll find that Hawaii truly is paradise and the assignment will be a very difficult one to leave when the time comes.
